ACTING OUT!
Theater Arts Techniques to Enhance Learning Across the Curriculum
ENCHANTED CIRCLE THEATER has been training teachers to integrate theater arts into the curriculum for over three decades. ACTING OUT! has been designed for participants to explore theater arts integration techniques, develop creative thinking and communication skills, and become immersed in creative curriculum classroom projects in science, language arts and social studies content areas.
Participants will leave this workshop series with experiences in a wide range of creative arts disciplines and formats, and a broad sense of creative education which they can readily adapt for use in any curriculum content area.
Theater Arts and Social Studies:
Participants will create an Annotated Photo Album (a stylized presentation which combines "still life frozen images" with descriptive narrative) and turn it into a performance piece, based on the history of one of the following: The Explorers, Ancient Civilization or Colonization.
Theater Arts and Language Arts:Participants will brainstorm story-line ideas from dramatic statue shapes and turn them into creative writing projects, enhancing expository and descriptive writing skills. They will adapt a Japanese folktale into a classroom presentation, exploring story comprehension, character development, visual interpretation and sound.
Theater Arts and Science:
Concepts such as momentum, gravity, fulcrum and counter balance will be explored physically through creative movement exploration and interactive theater games. Participants then develop charade-style performances on content themes such as simple machines, weather and magnets. A portion of each day focuses on evaluation and assessment, as well as open forum discussions on desired outcomes and multiple styles of learning.
